Lhasa Tibet Do & See

See & Do :

  • Potala Palace, the architectural wander, is the symbol of the sacred land.
  • While the Potala dominates the skyline, the Jokhang, some 2km to the east, is the real spiritual heart of the city. An otherworldly mix of flickering butter lamps, wafting incense and prostrating pilgrims, the Jokhang is the most sacred and alive of Tibet’s temples
  • Barkhor  Street, another symbol of Lhasa, is a must-see place for tourists in Tibet. The square has become a focus for political protest and has been the scene of pitched battles between Chinese and Tibetans on several occasions, most noticeably in 1998 when several Tibetans were killed and a Dutch tourist was shot in the shoulder
  • Sara Monastery is well known for the lamas debating of Buddhist Doctrines.
  • For centuries, it’s a great honor for people to worship the statue of Sakyamuni in Jokhang Temple.
  • Drepung Monastery was once Tibet’s largest and most influential monastery, and also one of the three important Gelugpa monastery in Tibet along with Sara and Gandan monasteries.
  • Reputed the “heaven lake”, Namtso Lake is the most beautiful and of the three Tibetan Buddhism holiest lakes in Tibet.
  • The Gandan Monastery complex was formerly one of the three great religious centers for the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
  • Gyangtse Old Street, this is an ideal place to capture an insight into the daily life of the Tibetan people.
  • Norbulingka is named the Summer Palace of Dalia Lama, meaning “Treasure Park” in Tibet.
  • Ramoche Monastery is the sister temple of Jakhang Temple with the architectural style of Tang Dynasty.
  • Chimpu Caves, northeast of Samye monastery.
  • Wind horse adventures organise trips from Horse riding through Tibet to white water rafting through the Tibetan valleys. The organisation is excellent and run by a few Australians who now live in Tibet, they provide every meal while you are with them and the experts are pretty hot. The scenery was amazing and the rafting was awesome.
  • Tsamkhung Nunnery. Only for women. This small, friendly and active nunnery is the only one within the precincts of the old Tibetan quarter. The site of the nunnery probably dates back to the 7th century, but it housed a monastery until at least the 15th century.
  • Zituo Bridge. (?)
  • Lhalu Wetlands
  • Blind massage. :)
  • Music Kitchen, restautrant and bar with good music
  • Shöl Opera, tibetan opera.
  • Bicycle tours (!)
