There is an area in Pentai Cenang where there is a lot of Guesthouses, you can easilly walk from one Guesthouse to another, compare the prices and places. Just ask your driver to drive to Kahuna Cafe. From there you can walk around and check them out.(If your driver doesn´t know where Kahuna is ask them to drive you to the Suria in Pentai Cenang, opposite of Amani cafe. )
This is absolute the hardest one for me. It´s not like I will try out the different hotels here in Langkawi to be able to write something. If you are interested in coming to Langkawi and want me to check the place you are thinking about booking, please check out a few places and let me know their names. I will go and have a look at them irl for you. No problems :)
But I have friends who stayed at different places and using their knowledge I can help you out.
If / when you book a hotel online, make sure you book 2 nights in advance and then you can always book more nights if you are happy with the hotel once you seen it.
I strongly suggest that you stay in Pentai Cenang or Pentai Tengah. This is 2 close beaches on the west coast of Langkawi island. Lots of restaurants, resorts and bars here. Kuah on the other hand is a quite boring small city with all that comes with it. And no beaches nearby.
Rainbow Lodge
Is a nice, cozy and cheap place to stay. They have dorms, fan rooms and A/C rooms to offer. This place does not have family rooms. It is perfectly OK to come with small children and all sleep in the King size beds here. Not a problem at all. Very popular with the backpackers.
This place is located very close to one of the night markets here in Langkawi
Where: Pentai Cenang
Price:
Pool: NO
Walking distance to beach: 5 minutes
WiFi: Yes in all rooms, Really good.
Cenang Homestay / Cenang Village [Book here]
This is a place I have personal knowledge on, I have stayed here 2 months twice. It´s is quite a large place with plenty of different rooms and levels of prices. The surrounding is green with lots of coconut trees, banana trees and even cashew nut trees. Sometimes the staff will give you a cut open coconut fresh from the tree to drink!
it is located very close to the night market which is every thursday
Negative about this place: it is quite run down and maybe the maintenance could use a bit larger budget. The pool sometimes gets very dirty, there is plenty of people swimming in it in their normal clothes. Sometimes teh staff is not very good at cleaning either, they just don´t have the knowledge how it´s done.
Place: Pentai Cenang
Price:
Pool: YES
WIFI: Yes, quite good one when it is working (which is most of the time) unfortunately it is not available in all rooms.
Walking distance to the beach: 5 mins
Sweet Inn [Book here]
Sweet inn is a budget hotel but it is clean. This is almost the most important about a place. I have a friend who stayed there and she would recommend it to others. They offer both A7C rooms and Fan rooms.
Place: Pentai Cenang
Price: from 90 but you can ask for discount and maybe get a better price, if you walk-in. (A/C–room)
Pool: NO
WIFI: Yes, in all rooms.
Walking distance to the beach: 5 mins
