Taking a taxi (Teksi) in Kuala Lumpur

There is plenty of taxis in Kuala Lumpur and the fare is low (unless with rogue drivers).

asiatour Kuala Lumpur metered taxi

Just stop the taxi in the street and ask to use the meter, some will refuse, and tell them where you want to go. The taxis are required by law to use a meter but many of them don´t. They will say it is broken and asks where you want to go and then they will give you a ridiculous high fare for the ride. This is illegal and you can report it in a app that is easilly downloaded. A facebook page is a good start if you want to report.

The drivers in Malaysia are famous for being rude and lazy and dishonest (they are called the worst cab drivers in the world!) so be careful when you enter a taxi. If you  haggle make sure you know that the fair is in ringgit, some drivers normally use the word ”dollar” but that does not mean US$.

YAsiatour Kuala Lumpur Taxiou can also use apps to get your own taxi and this is good if you are in the outskirts of the city but downtown this is not necessairy at all. Your hotel can also help you organise at taxi if you wish.

Some taxis will also add a sum of RM 10 to your fare saying this is the night rate, this is not true, however there is an extra charge from midnight to 6am, surcharge of 50% on the metered fare, and extra passengers (more than two) are charged 20 sen each. Luggage placed in the boot costs an extra RM1.

Take the license and their id number and please report them.

If you get discouraged by this information about taxis there is plenty of other good and very cheap transportation in Kuala Lumpur. GO: KL. LRT, Bus, monorail.  It is not hassle free to get around KL by this way of transportation but the trains are traffick jam free… (And believe me there is plenty of traffick jam in KL)
