We all know that taxi drivers are lazy, if you don´t force them they will not get out of their car to open your door or the trunk. If they believe the trip is to short for them to make a proper profit they will just ignore it/you. This is common all over the world i believe.
The drivers in Hong Kong have taken this to a higher leve!
They have buttons they push to open och close their trunks and other buttons to open for you to enter the car and then close if after you.
I think this is hillarious!
The taxis in Hong Kong are metererd and it feels like the drivers take care of their cars so they are pretty clean. It is easy to stop them in the streets and they do know they way around. They are often red in color, but comes also in blue and green so they are asilly spotted. The fare table for the taxi should be placed visible in the taxi. This is the law.
Some taxis will haggle with you so you will come back but this is against the law. The taxameter should always be on and if the driver refuses you can take the number of the car and the drivers id (should be posted on the dashboard) and report it
No diesel cars are allowed to drive the streets of Hong Kong since 2006. All taxis are run on LPG (Liquefied petroleum gas) due to pollution.
